PRIVACY POLICY — BIBLE STUDY READER

Last updated: April 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data the Bible Study Reader app collects, how it is used, and under what circumstances it leaves your device.

────────────────────────────────────────
1. SUMMARY

The Bible Study Reader is designed to respect your privacy. Your answers, notes, and study progress are stored only on your device. No account is required. No advertising is shown. No analytics or tracking software is included.

────────────────────────────────────────
2. DATA STORED ON YOUR DEVICE

All of the following is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to any server:

• Your answers to study questions and reflection questions
• Your chapter notes
• Your starred (bookmarked) questions
• Your study progress and completion records
• Your app settings and preferences (font size, dark mode, language, etc.)
• The study content files (.estudy files) you have installed
• Cover images and other media associated with installed studies

This data is stored using your device's browser storage (localStorage) and IndexedDB. It remains on your device until you delete it within the app, uninstall the app, or clear the app's data through your device settings.

────────────────────────────────────────
3. DATA TRANSMITTED OVER THE INTERNET

The app uses the internet only in the following specific circumstances:

3a. Downloading study files
When you download a study from the in-app library, the app fetches the study file from a third-party file host (currently Google Drive). This is a standard file download; no personal information is sent. The study file is then stored on your device (see Section 2).

3b. AI Tutor (optional feature, not available in all studies)
Some studies include an optional AI Tutor feature powered by the Google Gemini API. This feature is only active if the study you are using has been configured with it by its author.

When you use the AI Tutor, the following information is sent to Google's servers:
  • The chapter title and study context for the chapter you are working on
  • The text of the question you are asking about
  • The messages you type in the AI Tutor conversation panel

The following is NOT sent to Google:
  • Your saved question answers
  • Your notes
  • Your name or any account information
  • Any device identifiers

Google processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy and the Google Gemini API terms of service. You can review Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

The AI Tutor conversation is stored locally on your device as part of your answer record. It is not stored on any server operated by the app developer.

If you do not want your typed messages sent to Google, simply do not use the AI Tutor feature. It can be disabled in Settings.

3c. App updates (Android only)
The app may check for available updates by fetching version information from a file hosted on Google Drive. This is a standard file request; no personal information is sent.

────────────────────────────────────────
4. MICROPHONE (VOICE INPUT)

If you choose to use the voice input feature, your device's microphone is activated while you are speaking. On Android, speech recognition is handled either by:

• Your device's built-in speech recognition system (processed by your device or by your device manufacturer's servers, subject to their own privacy policies), or
• The Android WebView's Web Speech API.

The app developer does not receive or store any audio recordings. Voice input is entirely optional; the microphone is only activated when you deliberately tap the microphone button.

────────────────────────────────────────
5. TEXT-TO-SPEECH (READ ALOUD)

The read-aloud feature uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine to read study content aloud. No audio or text is sent to the app developer's servers. The text sent to the TTS engine is the study content you are currently reading, not your personal answers.

────────────────────────────────────────
6. PERMISSIONS

The app requests the following Android permissions:

• INTERNET — required to download study files and (where applicable) to use the AI Tutor feature.
• RECORD_AUDIO — required only for the optional voice input feature. This permission is requested only when you first attempt to use voice input.
• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / file access — required to allow you to load .estudy files from your device's storage.

────────────────────────────────────────
7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

The app is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app does not collect personal information from any user of any age.

────────────────────────────────────────
8. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

The app interacts with the following third-party services under the circumstances described above:

• Google Drive — for downloading study files and app updates
• Google Gemini API — for the optional AI Tutor feature (only in studies that include it)

The app contains no advertising networks, analytics SDKs, social media integrations, or crash-reporting services.

────────────────────────────────────────
9. DATA DELETION

All data stored by the app can be deleted at any time:

• To clear your answers for a study: Settings → Answers → Clear all answers for this study.
• To delete an installed study and all its data: Library → press and hold the study → Delete.
• To reset all app data: uninstall the app, or use your device's Settings → Apps → Bible Study Reader → Clear Data.

────────────────────────────────────────
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be made available on the app's Play Store page. The date at the top of this document will reflect the date of the most recent revision.
